Water Design Engineer
Contract Length:
12 months
Key Accountabilities:
- Hydraulic modelling of pipelines, borefields, pump stations, ponds, and tanks.
- Preparation and compilation of technical deliverables within a work package, including scope definition, construction drawings, quantity estimates (MTO), and stakeholder liaison.
- Facilitate project design reviews, including field inspections, stakeholder requirement assessments, and conformity to basis of design criteria.
- Develop final engineering deliverables, including but not limited to pipeline schematics, general arrangements (GAs), P&IDs, and critical equipment selection.
- Provide input to capital estimates, including quantity calculations and compilation of MTOs.
- Coordinate operational readiness requirements for the project.
- Ensure schedule compliance and escalate schedule risks as required.
- Provide construction support through technical queries and updates to design deliverable documentation as needed.
- Produce equipment data sheets and evaluate vendor proposals for budget and technical compliance.
- Ensure designs are produced in accordance with statutory regulations, project requirements, good engineering practice, and procedural standards.
- Communicate clearly and promptly regarding design progress, changes, risks, and issues.
- Liaise with and provide timely support and information transfer to other disciplines.
- Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering (preferred), or Chemical or Civil Engineering, recognised by Engineers Australia.
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in mechanical piping systems and pipeline design, ideally within the mining industry and/or engineering consultancy.
- Previous experience in mine dewatering is advantageous.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Sound understanding of discipline technologies and inter-discipline requirements.
- Knowledge of Australian and common international standards and regulatory authority requirements relevant to mining and water industries.
- Ability to travel to site as required (short trips for scoping and stakeholder engagement).
- Self-motivated with the ability to deliver on schedule and within budget.
- Competency in Visio; experience with ArcMap is preferred.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to think innovatively.
