Our client is seeking a Water Design Engineer (Dewatering) to take a lead role in delivering detailed design solutions for water infrastructure projects across our client’s mining operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality designs in alignment with relevant Australian standards, ensuring safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct hydraulic modelling for pipelines, borefields, pump stations, ponds, and tanks.
- Prepare and compile comprehensive work packages, including scope definition, construction drawings, material take-offs (MTOs), and stakeholder coordination.
- Lead project design reviews, incorporating field inspections and ensuring compliance with stakeholder requirements and design criteria.
- Develop final engineering deliverables such as pipeline schematics, general arrangements (GAs), P&IDs, and specifications for critical equipment.
- Contribute to capital cost estimates through quantity calculations and MTO compilation.
- Coordinate operational readiness activities for assigned projects.
- Monitor schedule adherence and escalate risks related to project timelines when necessary.
- Provide construction support by addressing technical queries and updating design documents as required.
- Prepare equipment data sheets and assess vendor proposals for compliance with budget and technical specifications.
- Ensure all designs meet statutory regulations, project specifications, industry best practices, and internal procedures.
- Communicate progress, changes, risks, and issues clearly and in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with and support other engineering disciplines by sharing relevant project information.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred), accredited by Engineers Australia.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical piping and pipeline design, preferably in the mining sector or engineering consulting.
- Previous exposure to mine dewatering projects is highly desirable.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Solid understanding of engineering technologies and multidisciplinary integration.
- Familiarity with Australian and international standards relevant to the mining and water sectors.
- Willingness to travel to site as needed for short-term assignments.
- Self-motivated with the ability to deliver on time and within budget.
- Proficiency in Visio and ArcMap is advantageous.
