We are seaking a Senior Project Planner to provide leadership and technical expertise in project planning and scheduling across civil construction, bulk earthworks, and transmission-line projects.
This role is responsible for developing, managing, and defending complex integrated project schedules, undertaking advanced delay and impact analysis, and providing strategic planning support to Project Managers and senior leadership.
The Senior Project Planner plays a key role in strengthening planning standards, mentoring junior planners, supporting commercial and contractual processes, and ensuring planning outputs are accurate, defensible, and aligned with contractual obligations and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, manage, and maintain fully integrated project schedules aligned with project scope, milestones, contractual obligations, and delivery strategies
- Lead the development of baseline schedules aligned with cost budgets, procurement plans, subcontractor programs, and resource forecasts
- Conduct detailed critical path analysis and proactively identify schedule risks, slippages, and mitigation strategies
- Ensure schedule integrity, logic compliance, and consistency with established planning standards
- Oversee schedule updates and validate progress reporting from site teams
- Lead advanced delay and impact analysis using recognised methodologies
- Prepare and support Extension of Time (EOT) submissions, ensuring contractual compliance and defensibility
- Assess variations, scope changes, and their schedule impacts in collaboration with project and commercial teams
- Support claims preparation, dispute resolution, and negotiations where required
- Review subcontractor programs and assess schedule compliance and performance
- Provide accurate short-, medium-, and long-term schedule and resource forecasts
- Prepare and present weekly and monthly planning reports to internal stakeholders
- Integrate schedule performance with cost data to support cost-to-complete forecasting
- Identify trends and provide strategic recommendations to mitigate delivery risks
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to Planners and Assistant Planners
- Review and approve planning outputs prepared by junior team members
- Support the establishment and continuous improvement of planning standards, templates, and best practices
- Lead planning discussions in project reviews, progress meetings, and delivery forums
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Commercial, Procurement, and Site teams
- Conduct regular site visits to validate progress, assess productivity, and ensure delivery alignment
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline (preferred)
- Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 and/or MS Project
- Formal training or demonstrated expertise in delay analysis methodologies (e.g. Time Impact Analysis)
- Typically 7+ years’ experience in project planning within civil construction, bulk earthworks, infrastructure, or transmission-line projects
- Proven experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary project schedules
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, subcontractor management, and delivery methodologies
- Demonstrated capability in delay analysis, EOT preparation, and contractual schedule compliance
- Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to influence stakeholders and deliver clear, data-driven recommendations
- Experience mentoring or leading planning personnel
- Strong understanding of commercial and contractual frameworks in construction projects
