Senior Electrical Engineer

Role Responsibilities
- Deliver discipline-specific electrical engineering services in line with client requirements and relevant statutory, regulatory, and industry standards.
- Undertake engineering design and perform technical verification of project deliverables within area of expertise.
- Develop safe, sustainable, and fit-for-purpose solutions across all project phases—from concept through to as-built—considering operability, maintainability, and eventual decommissioning.
- Proactively assess and address safety risks throughout the asset lifecycle; take ownership of risk mitigation actions and ensure timely resolution.
- Identify and resolve technical issues; propose innovative and practical solutions; escalate for support where necessary.
- Ensure clarity in project scope and manage any changes through formal change control processes.
- Prepare, review, or oversee engineering calculations, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Perform quality checks and reviews in line with project standards and engineering governance.
- Participate in technical reviews, HAZID/HAZOP workshops, and Safety in Design sessions.
- Develop engineering estimates for the electrical discipline, including:
- Defining scope and engineering requirements
- Detailing in-scope/out-of-scope activities, assumptions, and deliverables
- Contributing to schedule development with logical sequencing and milestone alignment
- Assessing and allocating appropriate resources
- Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including discipline leads, designers, project managers, and workshare teams.
- Foster and maintain strong working relationships with clients, contractors, and internal project teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering systems, processes, and design practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Power Engineering (4-year qualification).
- Extensive technical experience in the energy, chemicals, mining, or heavy industry sectors, including demonstrated discipline-level leadership.
- Strong capability to manage concurrent projects across all engineering phases—from feasibility to commissioning.
- Deep knowledge of Australian electrical standards and codes.
- Active Hazardous Area Accreditation (highly regarded).
- Functional Safety TÜV Certification (desirable).
- Electrical equipment sizing, cable routing, layout planning, lighting design, earthing systems, arc flash assessments, and HV/MV switchgear and MCC design.
- Integration of control systems and instrumentation with electrical infrastructure.
- Electrical calculations for protection systems and relay settings (e.g., overcurrent, earth fault, motor protection, VSDs).
- Production of electrical design deliverables including SLDs, schematics, terminations, layouts, and schedules.
- Field experience in scoping, equipment inspection, construction, and commissioning.
- Witnessing of equipment FATs and SATs.
- Preparation of ITPs, MTOs, datasheets, specifications, procurement requests, construction scopes, and methodology documents.
- Accurate input into electrical cost estimates and project execution schedules.
- Practical understanding of shutdown planning and design considerations.
