Mechanical Designer 

Location: Brisbane
Contract Length: 12 months

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the work of mechanical designers and drafters within the business line, overseeing the development of layout designs, study drawings, detailed 2D/3D CAD models, and construction documentation.
  • Independently develop complete and complex mechanical systems and components for mining and bulk materials handling facilities.
  • Ensure all mechanical designs adhere to approved standards and codes to support plant reliability, operational safety, and cost-effective construction.
  • Participate in constructability assessments and 3D model reviews to enhance design efficiency and integration.
  • Establish and maintain design and drafting procedures to streamline team processes and standardize output quality.
  • Conduct or coordinate site visits when required to resolve technical issues and provide clarification on drawings and documentation.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or completion of an advanced drafting and design certification.
  • Typically requires 8–10 years of relevant industry experience.
Skills and Technical Expertise:
  • Extensive experience in bulk materials handling systems is essential.
  • Strong background in the design of crushing and screening plants, conveyors, and transfer stations.
  • Proficient in mechanical design principles, engineering drawings, and modern drafting techniques.
  • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary interfaces and overseeing integrated global 3D models.
  • Skilled in design software including Autodesk Inventor, Bentley MicroStation, and Navisworks.
  • Familiarity with modeling mechanical equipment used in mining and metals projects, including cross-disciplinary equipment integration.
  • Capable of interpreting and utilising engineering documents and drawings developed by other project teams.
