Laboratory Technical Operator

Roster: Thursday to Monday (5/2) 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Contribute to a safe working environment and support activity risk assessments.
  • Monitor and conduct experimental tests, analyses, and measurements within R&D laboratory facilities to evaluate green iron technologies using custom equipment (e.g. electrochemical testing stations and rigs).
  • Follow experimental operating procedures and safety protocols.
  • Provide support to scientists, engineers, and fabrication team members working in the laboratory.
  • Assist with qualitative and quantitative analysis and characterisation of samples, raw materials, reagents, and products using a range of laboratory-based techniques.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory instruments and assist with tracking laboratory supplies, including stocks of materials, chemicals, consumables, and waste disposal.
  • Collect and record data, document activities, and support progress tracking.
  • Contribute to effective shift handovers.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Background in industrial chemistry, mineral processing, electrochemistry, or materials science (preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g. materials science, electrochemistry, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, or similar); research experience desirable.
  • Experience working in laboratories handling hazardous materials (essential).
  • Proven ability to safely set up, operate, and monitor test systems/equipment/control systems, with troubleshooting capability.
  • Practical skills in assembling and disassembling mechanical fittings.
  • Ability to input testing data, document procedures, and report results.
  • Experience in electrochemistry (research experience desirable).
  • Familiarity with operating liquid/slurry test systems/equipment (desirable).
  • Experience working with reduced staffing levels and in multi-shift teams (advantageous).
  • Advanced First Aid and Fire Warden competencies (desirable).
