An experienced SMP Supervisor is required to oversee on-site SMP construction activities across a small process plant and underground infrastructure package within an operational mining environment.
This is a highly interface-driven, site-based role, requiring strong brownfields construction experience, practical leadership, and a strong focus on safety, quality, and schedule delivery. The position works closely with multiple contractors and site stakeholders to ensure successful execution of SMP works.
Key Responsibilities
SMP Construction Supervision
- Supervise SMP construction works including:
- Structural steel
- Platework
- Mechanical installations
- Piping, spools, supports, and tie-ins
- Prefabrication activities where applicable
- Drive works in a brownfields, operational interface environment
- Lead contractor performance across safety, quality, schedule, and productivity
- Run daily pre-starts and toolbox talks
- Enforce critical risk controls in high-consequence environments
- Manage permit-to-work compliance including:
- Hot works
- Confined space entry
- Working at heights
- Lifting operations
- Ensure quality compliance by reviewing and implementing:
- ITPs
- Method statements
- Risk assessments
- Perform field inspections and manage hold points
- Manage interfaces with SMP and other package contractors through structured coordination meetings
- Track progress and proactively identify risks and construction constraints
- Provide accurate daily reporting, lookaheads, and constraint logs
- Support commissioning and handover activities including:
- Punch listing
- Walkdowns
- Systems completion
- Interface with operations teams
- Proven supervisory experience delivering SMP scopes on process plant or mineral processing projects
- Strong brownfields construction capability
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs
- High level of safety leadership in high-risk environments
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Relevant trade background (mechanical, boilermaker, rigging) or equivalent practical experience
- High-risk work licences as applicable (LF, DG, WP)
- Strong permit-to-work system knowledge
- S26 Qualified (essential)
- 8/6 roster
- 12-hour days
