Reporting to a senior project leader, you will lead cost control systems and processes, provide accurate forecasting and reporting, and partner closely with project teams to ensure financial performance aligns with approved budgets and schedules. This is a hands-on role offering strong exposure to senior stakeholders and the opportunity to mentor junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain cost management systems, processes and procedures
- Manage project cost and progress reporting, providing timely and accurate insights
- Lead Value of Work Done (VOWD), Estimate to Complete (ETC) and Estimate at Completion (EAC) activities
- Apply Earned Value Management (EVM) techniques to assess project performance
- Review contractor claims, validate invoices and establish monthly accruals
- Maintain cost databases and ensure alignment with financial systems
- Support purchase requisition and purchase order processes
- Deliver monthly reporting and variance analysis
- Facilitate cost forecast reviews with Project Managers and stakeholders
- Support Management of Change processes and cost trending
- Assist with quarterly capital planning
- Manage cost activities through project closeout
- Mentor cost controllers and junior team members
- Build strong working relationships across engineering, finance and project teams
- Minimum 6 years’ experience in project cost control
- Experience supporting mid to large-scale capital projects
- Strong knowledge of forecasting, cashflow management and progress measurement
- Experience applying Earned Value Management principles
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and MS Office skills
- Experience with SAP and project cost systems (desirable)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial insights to senior stakeholders
- A proactive, hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Commerce or Finance
- Project Management or recognised Project Controls certification (desirable)
