An experienced Mechanical Construction Lead is required to provide hands‑on, site‑based leadership across mechanical construction activities within an active operational environment. This role is responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of mechanical works across fixed plant, materials handling systems and associated infrastructure.
You will work closely with project management, engineering teams and contractors to ensure construction activities are executed in line with safety standards, scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements.
This position suits a practical construction leader with strong mechanical trade or engineering background and experience working in live operating environments.
Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Environment
- Champion a strong safety‑first culture onsite
- Lead daily pre‑starts and safety interactions
- Conduct critical risk management verifications
- Ensure compliance with permit systems and isolation processes
- Ensure timely reporting of incidents and hazards
- Develop, validate and execute mechanical scopes of work
- Supervise contractors during installation, modification and commissioning activities
- Manage scope changes through formal governance processes
- Ensure QA/QC compliance across all mechanical works
- Monitor construction schedules and productivity
- Identify delays and implement corrective actions
- Support project controls processes including technical queries and field notices
- Manage cost risks during the construction phase
- Lead constructability and risk assessments
- Facilitate Pre‑Start Readiness Reviews
- Support commissioning activities and final handover to operations
You are a confident, site‑focused construction leader who thrives in dynamic environments and works effectively with multiple stakeholders.
To be successful, you will have:
- Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting or Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
- Minimum 5+ years’ relevant industry experience
- Strong experience leading mechanical construction activities onsite
- Exposure to:
- Conveyors and materials handling systems
- Fixed plant and crushers
- Rotating equipment
- Structural steel and piping
- Experience working in live operational or brownfield environments
- Strong contractor supervision and coordination capability
- Current manual driver’s licence
