About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Trend Engineer to join a major capital project delivery team. This role is responsible for leading project cost control, trend management, forecasting and estimating activities across complex engineering and construction projects. Working closely with project controls, engineering, construction and commercial teams, you will provide accurate cost reporting, identify project risks and opportunities, and support informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage project cost control activities in accordance with established project procedures and governance.
  • Lead the identification, assessment and reporting of project trends and changes impacting cost and schedule.
  • Forecast the cost and schedule impacts of project changes and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Support the implementation and management of project trend and change management processes.
  • Coordinate trend review meetings with engineering, construction and commercial stakeholders.
  • Prepare, review and analyse cost estimates throughout all phases of project delivery.
  • Perform cost comparisons, quantity analysis and benchmarking using historical project data.
  • Develop productivity analyses and establish estimating benchmarks for construction activities.
  • Prepare detailed cost studies using statistical analysis, historical performance and quantity take-offs.
  • Monitor project budgets, identify cost variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop trend evaluations and prepare management reports to support project decision-making.
  • Assist with developing unit rates, labour productivity data and pricing information.
  • Contribute to project risk and contingency assessments.
  • Provide accurate cost forecasting and reporting to project management and key stakeholders.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across project controls and cost engineering functions.
About You 
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Commerce or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 8–10 years' experience in Cost Engineering, Cost Control or Project Controls on major engineering, mining, energy or infrastructure projects (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Strong experience with project forecasting, cost reporting and budget management.
  • Proven ability to manage project trends, variations and change control processes.
  • Experience preparing estimates, cost studies and productivity analyses.
  • Sound understanding of estimating methodologies, cost planning and project controls principles.
  • Strong knowledge of quantity take-offs, cost analysis and statistical evaluation techniques.
  • Understanding of project risk management and contingency development.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, Lookups and complex reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to present cost information clearly to project leadership teams.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience on large-scale EPC or EPCM mining, energy or infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with estimating software and project controls systems.
  • Knowledge of project budgeting, earned value management and cost forecasting methodologies.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary project delivery teams.
