An exciting opportunity is available for a Senior Protection Engineer to join a major energy infrastructure program delivering high-voltage transmission and renewable energy projects. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will play a key role in the design, configuration, testing and commissioning of protection systems for substations, renewable generation facilities and battery energy storage systems (BESS). This position offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects involving modern digital protection technologies and large-scale electrical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and review electrical protection systems for high-voltage substations and renewable energy facilities.
- Perform protection studies, coordination assessments and relay setting calculations.
- Produce and review functional design specifications, protection philosophies and technical documentation.
- Develop, configure and verify protection relay settings and configuration files.
- Conduct factory acceptance testing and verify protection schemes and communications.
- Provide technical support throughout commissioning, troubleshooting complex protection and control issues.
- Prepare scopes of work for protection studies, grading reports and specialist engineering services.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications and technical deliverables to ensure compliance with project and industry standards.
- Work closely with operations, engineering and project teams to deliver integrated protection solutions.
- Ensure quality assurance processes and project documentation are completed throughout project delivery.
- Travel to project sites as required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in electrical protection systems.
- Experience designing and configuring transmission and distribution protection systems.
- Demonstrated experience producing relay settings, protection configurations and technical documentation.
- Experience with modern numerical protection relays.
- Understanding of substation communications and protection schemes.
- Experience developing functional design specifications.
- Strong knowledge of Australian electrical standards and protection engineering practices.
- Excellent technical report writing and documentation skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
