About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to join a growing engineering team delivering major resources and minerals processing projects.
Working within a multidisciplinary design environment, you will play a lead role in developing plant layouts, producing high-quality design deliverables and supporting project teams through study, detailed design and execution phases. You will work closely with engineers, designers and project stakeholders to develop practical, buildable solutions for complex processing facilities.
This opportunity is suited to a mechanically focused designer with strong plant layout experience and a solid understanding of materials handling and process plant design.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain 2D and 3D mechanical design models and project drawings.
- Produce plant layouts from preliminary engineering data and project requirements.
- Generate design documentation in accordance with company, client and industry standards.
- Review engineering sketches, calculations and vendor documentation to develop design solutions.
- Coordinate design activities with engineering and drafting teams across multiple disciplines.
- Ensure design deliverables are completed in accordance with project schedules and budgets.
- Support the development of conceptual and detailed plant layouts.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to technical problem-solving activities.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant Australian and international standards.
- Provide guidance and support to less experienced designers where required.
- Minimum 6 years' experience in mechanical design and drafting.
- Strong background in processing plant layout design within the resources, mining or heavy industrial sectors.
- Experience working on materials handling and minerals processing facilities.
- Sound understanding of fabrication, construction and plant installation requirements.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and vendor documentation.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Extensive plant layout experience across processing or materials handling facilities.
- Advanced MicroStation 2D and 3D capability.
- Experience producing detailed mechanical design and drafting deliverables.
- Understanding of engineering design workflows and project delivery processes.
- Experience reviewing and incorporating vendor information into plant designs.
- Experience on gold, copper, lithium or similar mineral processing projects.
- Exposure to both greenfield and brownfield developments.
- Experience working through study, FEED and detailed design phases.
