A leading mining operator is seeking an experienced Senior HSE Advisor to provide hands-on safety leadership on a major, long-duration capital works program based at an operational mine site in Western Australia.
This is a field-facing role supporting complex surface and underground construction activities, including hazardous chemical infrastructure and underground services installation. You’ll partner closely with construction leadership, engineering teams, supervisors, and principal contractors to embed safe systems of work, strengthen critical risk controls, and ensure works are delivered safely across multiple work fronts.
This opportunity is best suited to a safety professional with strong underground mining construction experience who can confidently influence a diverse contractor workforce in a live operational environment.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience as a Senior HSE/OHS Advisor within mining, resources, or major infrastructure construction environments
- Strong underground mining construction experience(essential)
- Experience supporting large construction projects within an operational mine site
- Proven capability working with principal contractors and multi-contractor delivery models
- Practical, working knowledge of:
- Critical risk management and safety assurance
- Risk assessments, JHAs, SWMS reviews, and critical control verification
- Field-based safety leadership, coaching, and workforce engagement
- Ability to monitor and advise on controls for high-risk activities including:
- Underground construction work
- Hazardous chemicals (including ammonia handling)
- Confined space entry
- Excavation/ground disturbance
- Isolation and energy management
- Working at heights
- Lifting and rigging
- Heavy vehicle and mobile equipment interactions
- Pressure piping/mechanical installations
- Strong understanding of WA mining safety legislation and contemporary industry best practice
- Experience conducting inspections, assurance activities, and supporting incident investigations and corrective actions
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence supervisors, engineers, and construction leaders
- Underground gold mining experience
- Experience on major project environments (e.g., large-scale capital programs)
- Exposure to underground infrastructure and services projects (e.g., piping, ventilation, refrigeration, processing, utilities)
- ICAM investigation training
- Lead Auditor qualification
- Extensive, relevant HSE experience in underground mining projects with significant construction scope
- Proven track record supporting contractor-led construction delivery in live operational environments
- FIFO roster: 8/6 or 2/1
- Comfortable working across both underground and surface work areas
- Able to operate in a high-visibility, site-based role requiring frequent field interaction and engagement
