We are seeking an experienced Project Engineering Manager to support the delivery of major capital projects within a heavy industry or resources environment. This is an owner‑side engineering leadership role, providing technical governance, design management, and assurance across multi‑discipline project scopes.
You will play a key role in defining engineering requirements, establishing standards and frameworks, and ensuring that engineering design outputs meet safety, quality, operability, and integration expectations across all project phases.
The Role As Project Engineering Manager, you will be accountable for engineering scope definition and technical leadership across significant capital works. You will lead and interface with multi‑discipline engineering teams and tier‑one engineering service providers, ensuring designs are delivered in line with agreed standards, schedules, and project objectives.
This role is well suited to an experienced engineer who enjoys operating at project level, balancing technical leadership with stakeholder engagement and design governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Define engineering scope, technical requirements, and design standards for capital projects
- Provide engineering governance and assurance across all project phases
- Lead and coordinate multi‑discipline engineering activities (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical)
- Manage and interface with external engineering service providers delivering design packages
- Ensure engineering outputs meet safety, quality, operability, and integration requirements
- Support option studies, design development, and execution planning
- Work closely with project managers, construction, and operations teams to ensure aligned delivery
- Maintain engineering schedule certainty through clear scope definition and interface management
- Provide technical advice and leadership to project and senior stakeholders
- Bachelor of Engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical) recognised under the Washington Accord
- 10+ years’ experience in engineering roles within resources, mining, mineral processing, or heavy industry
- 5+ years’ experience in engineering design and design management
- Strong understanding of owner‑side engineering governance models
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and engineering service providers
- Exposure to project management and/or contract/commercial management (desirable)
- Owner‑side role on major capital and infrastructure projects
- Strong influence over engineering outcomes and design quality
- High level of stakeholder and project exposure
