An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Cost Controller to join a large industrial operation in Regional Victoria. Supporting a portfolio of capital and sustaining projects, this role will be responsible for providing accurate cost control, forecasting, reporting, and project support services to ensure successful project delivery.
This position is ideally suited to candidates residing within commuting distance of the site or those willing to travel from metropolitan or regional locations. The site is located approximately 3–4 hours from Melbourne and offers the opportunity to work within a well-established project environment. The role will work closely with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, finance personnel, and operational stakeholders to provide visibility of project performance and support effective decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts, commitments, and cost reports.
- Monitor project expenditure and identify cost trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Prepare monthly cost reports, variance analyses, and performance updates for project stakeholders.
- Support project forecasting, cash flow management, and budget tracking activities.
- Assist with earned value reporting, including Cost Performance Index (CPI) and Schedule Performance Index (SPI) monitoring.
- Track commitments, purchase orders, invoices, and project accruals.
- Support the administration and coordination of small to medium capital projects.
- Maintain project controls systems and ensure the integrity of project cost data.
- Liaise with engineering, operations, procurement, and finance teams to ensure alignment across project activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within project controls and reporting processes.
- Demonstrated experience in Cost Control, Project Controls, Project Services, or a similar project support role.
- Experience supporting capital projects within industrial, manufacturing, resources, infrastructure, energy, or construction environments.
- Strong understanding of project budgeting, forecasting, cost management, and financial reporting principles.
- Excellent analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with project reporting systems.
- Exposure to Primavera P6 or similar project scheduling software is highly desirable.
- Understanding of Earned Value Management methodologies, including CPI and SPI metrics, is advantageous.
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Project Controls, Finance, Commerce, Construction Management, or a related discipline are desirable.
