Automation & Control Systems | Perth Based | Project & Site Support Focus
An engineering consultancy specialising in industrial automation and control systems is seeking an experienced Control Systems Engineer to support a portfolio of operational improvement, upgrade and commissioning projects across major resources and processing facilities.
This role will involve delivering automation projects from detailed design through to commissioning and ongoing operational support. You will work closely with operations, maintenance and project teams while contributing to the reliability, performance and continuous improvement of critical control systems.
The role As a Control Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting control system upgrades, troubleshooting operational issues and delivering automation solutions across a range of industrial assets.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, configure and commission control system upgrades and automation projects.
- Deliver PLC, SCADA and HMI modifications as part of brownfield improvement programs.
- Participate in detailed design, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
- Provide ongoing operational and technical support for control systems and automation infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot control system, communications and instrumentation issues.
- Support plant operations through first and second-level technical support.
- Contribute to process control improvements and operational optimisation initiatives.
- Review and develop Functional Design Specifications (FDS), scopes of work and technical documentation.
- Participate in change management processes and peer reviews.
- Ensure compliance with site safety requirements, engineering standards and project procedures.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, operators, maintenance personnel and project stakeholders.

- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Instrumentation or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience delivering automation and control systems projects within mining, resources, heavy industry or process plant environments.
- Strong understanding of industrial control systems and operational technology environments.
- Experience supporting plant operations and commissioning activities.
- Exposure to brownfield upgrades and control system migrations highly regarded.
- Ability to travel to site as required for project execution, testing and commissioning activities.
- Current Australian driver's licence.
- Australian working rights.
- Experience working on large-scale mining or industrial operations.
- Previous involvement in control system upgrade and modernisation projects.
- Familiarity with operational support environments and remote operations centres.
- Experience across the full project lifecycle including detailed design, FAT, SAT, commissioning and operational handover.
- Strong understanding of alarm management, process optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Long-term project pipeline across automation and control systems projects.
- Mix of office-based engineering and site-based commissioning activities.
- Exposure to major industrial and mining operations.
